First of all I would like to start by saying that Juanma Teixidó is a very humble guy. I had the chance to meet him at the Future of Web Design: New York City in 2010. He is very smart and intelligent as if you couldn’t already tell by his website. I remember when Juanma launched his website. We were sitting at a FOWD session and he was so excited about launching it.

This site is very clean and easy to navigate. The footer at the bottom is my favorite part. One, because I like yellow and two because I also love banner designs. I also like how the texture in the background is very subtle. It doesn’t hurt my eyes when I am reading content or viewing his work. The type used in the header and body also compliments the website. Juanma did a great job on mixing both Serif and San serif in his site.

I love how simple the site of Frank Chimero is. It is really easy to read, navigate and also it allows it to be more enjoyable. The gutter spacing is kept very consistent throughout the site and the light greys help define the borders and sections. Also the type used for his logo compliments the website. And his work is also very fascinating.

This entire design is neat. I love the color scheme that Denise chose for this layout. When I have to design some sort of portfolio, I like to make sure my background is neutral so that the images that are being displayed stand out and by adding a splash of green color was smart. The green button at the bottom totally grabs my attention and makes me want to click on it. Overall, Denise did a great job on this design.

Ok first of all this site is beautiful. The colors really glow on this site. When I saw this on CSSMania, it really drew my attention. Most sites that are dark sometimes just have a few pop colors, but this site has the entire color spectrum. Coming from a print design background, this site reminds me of a poster layout. There is a lot of negative-space (whitepsace) and the gutter spaces are all consistent. Designers sometimes don’t think about keeping gutter spaces consistent, they like to go all over the place and never align things up. I am not not talking about beginners, but I have seen designers who have been designing for years and still don’t align things up. It’s one of my biggest pet peeves.

The designer of this site really paid lots of attention to the smallest of details. I like the little dashes above the color spectrum bar and of course the stitching below it. I also like how the designer kept the gradient on the pie chart very subtle. I am not a fan of harsh gradients and of course when a designer uses strong shadows. I like my shadows to be very light and subtle.  Also notice how the designer did not go crazy using many fonts on this site. If I can still count, I think I see 3 different fonts. He used a slab serif for the main title, a serif italic for subtiltes and complimented with sans-serif for the content. This design was well thought out. Oh I almost forgot to say that the button on the bottom is sexy.

I really can go on and on about this site. Enough of me talking, go check it out.

This site is killer. First of all, I love the design of the websites popping out of the site. Perfect shadows were used and it is not an overkill. Secondly, I love the vertical lines in the background with a soft touch of the noise filter. It brings an element of elegance into the picture.

Tim Van Damme did an amazing job making this site simple. When a user hovers over the images on the left, the effect of an accordion takes place and the information of the selected work is displayed. I also like how Tim stayed on a 20px gutter. I am a big fan of keeping every gutter consistent. I like to use 20px’s, 24px’s and sometimes even 40px’s or 50px’s. If you go to his current site, there is a splash page (last image posted), but I had the privilege of getting a snap shot from the man himself.

I also do want to note that the last website was also simple. When I get a snapshot of that, I will post it too.

When using wood as an element in the background of a website, most designers like to add a lot of contrast which then becomes an overkill. In this case, Henry did a perfect job balancing contrast and simplicity. I also like the big title on the homepage letting me know, as a user, what Henry does. Henry Jones is a designer living in Kingsport, Tennessee with over seven years of experience in web and 3D animation design.

A lot of portfolio websites sometimes have way too much stuff, but this one is simple and clean. I like how it has the appearance of a notebook. The shadow details are not heavy. Some designers like to go heavy on the use of shadow but to me I think it’s total overkill. I like how Bert used stitching for dividers and on the tabbed bookmarks for the navigation. I will be honest and say I am not a big fan of the font Capitals used on this website but overall the site is killer. Great job Bert.

I found this site as I was reading the article The Principle of Contrast in Web Design on Web Design Ledger. As I scrolled threw the article, a screenshot with a big HELLO behind the featured content caught my attention. As I clicked and looked further into the design, I noticed a lot of amazing cool details: the light silhouette in the background, the use of Gotham (my favorite font) and the stamp logo in the header. I have to admit that I love the color theme chosen for this site. It makes the entire site simple and clean. I also like how the site has big headers.

The  guys at Imaginaria Creative are not only amazing designers, but they are also located around the corner from me. Someday I am going to have to sit and have a couple of brews with them.

I love the the overall colors used in the design and in the background. It’s simple and clean. I also like the MetaLab feel of the overall site and buttons, but I am not sure about the leading used in the content. In typography, leading is the amount of added vertical spacing between lines of type. Due to a high amount of leading, it is hard for me to quickly separate each section of content. Overall the site is beautiful.

I love the wood background and the tag at the top of every frame.
