Tonight Laura and I were watching Bible Battles on the History Channel and they talked about the story of Jael. If you don’t know who Jael is, she is a character mentioned in the Book of Judges in the Hebrew Bible, as the heroine who killed Sisera to deliver Israel from the troops of king Jabin.

She invited Sisera into her tent and offered him milk. As soon as he fell asleep, Jael sneaked up on him, holding a tent peg and a mallet. She drove it through his temples so hard that it entered into the ground below.

This is just one of the many crazy stories mentioned in the Bible. If you want to learn more, open up the Bible and read the Old Testament. You will be surprised at what you find.

I was just reflecting this morning about this weekends message at Gateway Church. The message was entitled The Breath of God from the series The Holy Bible. Pastor Robert Morris shared with us from Ezekiel 37 where God told Ezekiel to prophesy over the dry bones and that God would breath life into them. So when Ezekiel did as he was told, there was a loud sound and then the tendons and flesh appeared on the bones and skin covered them but there was no life. So then Ezekiel prophesied what God told him to say and winds from the four corners came and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet.

The story of the Valley of Dry Bones has been one of my all time favorite Bible stories. I hope someday someone will turn this passage into a movie. How cool would that be?

This year I was given the chance to design a CD album cover for Rick Pino around Ezekiel 37. When Rick first told me the passage, I freaked out because I knew this was going to be a hard design. I immediately started looking at hard rock albums to find ideas of skulls and bones. Again and again I didn’t find anything useful. So I closed my door, turned off the lights and asked God for direction. After a couple of days, I finally came up with a design which I think best reflected Ezekiel 37.

Click here to view the entire album artwork.

What is your favorite Bible story?
